Proudly Supporting Community Heroes

Being a local Alliance Pharmacy, we are involved in the community Heroes initiative. This is our way of giving back by supporting the causes that matter most to our customers. Every time you shop with us, you place a token vote for the cause you think we should support.

2nd Shot

Our History

In 2016 BASE Services established 2nd Shot an innovative pathway, which provides hospitality training and employment opportunities to people experiencing homelessness in Toowoomba,

Our Mission

To break the cycle of homelessness through providing training and employment opportunities to people experiencing homelessness.

Our Method

People experiencing homelessness are often desperate to get a job, which is hard as not only do they lack accommodation but the majority of people experiencing homelessness left school before Year 10 with no formal education and are experiencing long term unemployment.

Since 2016 2nd Shot has been providing training and employment opportunities to people experiencing homelessness, while providing the  wrap around support needed to exit homelessness and unemployment.

Protea Place

Protea Place Inc. is a local Toowoomba charity, established in late 2018 to assist vulnerable women in the region. Founder and CEO, Amanda Dalton, created the initiative based on over 20 years of experience in the social services sector after identifying significant gaps and the need to provide support services specific to women.

As the region's only Women’s Support Centre, Protea Place quickly established itself as a hub for women in need with referrals coming in from numerous funded programs, Government agencies and word of mouth self-referrals.

Commencing initially with 2 days of service per week, we quickly expanded to 5 days per week within 6 months of opening. This was possible thanks to the generosity and support of the Toowoomba community and a number of successful community grants.

Initially developed in response to the growing numbers of women over 55 experiencing homelessness, Protea Place rapidly evolved with the presenting needs of women attending. All women over 18 without accompanying children are welcome at Protea Place. Any women who present in crisis with children will be warmly welcomed in and assisted with appropriate referrals.

Protea Place currently receives no government funding and is made possible by community financial donations, sponsorship, community grants and active fundraising.

Tony's Community Kitchen

We're Tony’s Community Kitchen. We are made up of over 150 volunteers who donate their time to prepare, cook and serve nutritious meals 7 nights a week, 365 days a year to those in need in the Toowoomba and Darling Downs Region.

From a young age, Tony has been helping people within the community. A Wilsonton boy growing up in a single-parent family, Tony loved his community and for many years has been involved with the homeless and at risk of homelessness.

Tony had been providing pies, sausage rolls and cooking a BBQ using park facilities for people in need two nights of the week. Easter Sunday 2020, the opportunity arose to get the community involved and with this help, a registered charity was formed, of which Tony is the founder.

Tony’s Community Kitchen is now able to provide nutritious meals, made by a community of schools, clubs and families, 7 nights a week, 365 nights of the year.
